april 2007

** My 2005 collaboration with Scott Sinclair "With Doors Open" is now available for free download, courtesy of Half/Theory, who described it as:

Opening with a squall of shrieking and scraping before rising into a glorious cacophony of freefalling noise, With Doors Open builds in tension and intensity before eventually opening out into soothing, drifting territory. Here too though, things are unsettled, never allowed to become narcoleptic, with dissonance hovering quietly in the background, gently nudging the listener, but never breaking them totally out of reverie.

Despite their 6-string origins, for the most part sounds here elude easy identification, there's a willingness to bust out some gnarly axe moves, unlike most experimental guitar music. Appropriately enough, this fearlessness reaches its zenith and yields it greatest fruit on the album's title track (featuring Joe Musgrove of Biffplex) - a maximalist mantra of chromatic noise blur, given wings by a towering psychedelic 'solo', cutting through the noise like light beams through smoke.

** Some new Undecisive God tracks will appear on upcoming compilation releases by Smell The Stench & Dreamland Recordings.

october 2006

january 2006

**  Tuesday January 31 - 8pm , at LOOP (23 Myers Place, Melbourne, will host the first of a series of guitar-orientated events called Defenders of the Axe. I will be playing a duo with Bokor to kick off the night. Also featured will be Ben Frost, North Atlantic & Three Month Sunset.

There has since been a web page uploaded by Dreamland Records with photos and audio from the night.

There was also a limited edition compilation CD made for the night, with each artist contributing a track. I have a handful of copies you can order or trade

**  New CD out now - Eccentricites. This represents recent ground covered over the past 12 months or so with mostly live to PC recordings with no overdubs.

"Calculator", the only non-guitar track, is a noisy cut-up of voice samples provided by Greg Wadley (New Waver, Hi-God People). "Little Pieces for Guitar" explores some guitar techniques unhindered by any effects, but relying simply upon very physical playing of the guitar with hands, fingernails, slide, arms, etc. Both "The Convention of Time" and "Music that writes Itself" use the DD6 digital delay pedal in a live context to gradually build up increasing structure of guitar loops that are then improvised over, while "Home Music: Quiet Day" & "Headless" use multi-tracking to create atmospheric pieces intended to be listened to in specific settings as detailed on the CD cover.
