Clinton Green is a writer, musician and music researcher based in Melbourne, Australia.
His involvement in music began in 1990 with the co-founding of a 'zine documenting Melbourne punk and experimental music, followed closely by the formation of several punk and noise bands built around his developing distinctive guitar sound. His increasing interest in experimenting with guitar sound led him beyond the constraints of the punk genre to a dedicated experimental approach to the instrument, largely through his long-time solo project, Undecisive God (1991 - present day). He also founded Shame File Music (1990 - present day, over 50 releases) as a means to release and distribute his own music, as well as that of other local musicians with an experimental edge.
In the past five years, Green has become an authority on the previously-neglected history of experimental music in Australia. Through Shame File Music, he re-issued the seminal NMATAPES series (1982 - 1992) in 2006, and the following year saw the landmark release of the Artefacts of Australian Experimental Music: 1930 - 1973 compilation CD, meticulously researched and compiled by Green over a three year period. He has also co-directed recitals of neglected Melbourne experimental music from the 1960s and 1970s, and is currently compiling a sequel to the Artefacts CD. Green has been commissioned to write on the subject for the Australian Music Centre website.
Green's fiction explores traditional horror themes from a realist perspective. The symbolism of horror myth is evoked in everyday settings, both modern and historical. His stories have appeared in numerous magazines and anthologies. His debut novel The Percival Tyler Files was published by Rainfall Books in 2006.
